INTRODUCTION
Healthy living can be referred as good functioning of mental and physical health in an individual. Healthy living is influenced mostly by people’s lifestyle their behaviour, their attitude, their culture, their occupation etc. This article will give tips of healthy living focusing on three major factors that will influence a healthy living which are Nutrition, exercise and sleep. Moreover, it will also highlight what is discouraged (DONTS) for a healthy living.
In today’s world, many people are trying everything to enhance a healthy living, however their practices on the same ended up ruining their living to toxic, these tips are still important to help you get back to your health living.
1.NUTRITION
Is the process of obtaining food and mineral for growth, development and body nourishment.
Nutrition plays a very important role in achieving healthy living. Depending with someone’s health nutrition varies from person to person. A good nutrition should consist of food reach in carbohydrates, proteins, vitamins and mineral salts. This is to ensure that its a balanced diet. Poor diet has its own consequences and highly prone to diseases. A good feeding habit should be done at least thrice a day. Under feeding leads to a poor health state. (malnutrition). Eating just enough food facilitates healthy living, ensure that you do not overfeed. An average of three meals a day is approximated to be enough.
Below are the major nutrients that one requires for a good healthy living.
CARBOHYDRATES
These are foods that gives energy to the body. It’s required by the body in large amount to provide energy in the body which will ensure good functioning of all parts of the body. Forms of carbohydrates include sugars, starches and fibres. Starchy foods are the main sources of carbohydrates. Examples of foods rich in carbohydrates include:
Potatoes, rice, bread, whole grains, ugali, corn, etc.
PROTEINS
They are body building foods. They contain minerals that builds bones and muscles to facilitate body growth and development. It also repairs the worn-out tissues and cells, balances blood sugar, helps the bloodstream to transport oxygen and increased energy.
Examples of foods rich in proteins include eggs, fish, beef, beans, milk, nuts, etc.
VITAMINS
Foods that contains nutrients that fight against disease causing micro-organisms.
They are majorly fruits and vegetables. Vitamins should also be taken in large quantity for a good health. Examples of fruits include oranges, avocado, mangoes, pineapple, berries, etc.
MINERAL SALTS
They are responsible for structural functions and regulatory functions in the body. Minerals include calcium, magnesium, sodium chloride and potassium.
Minerals are found in liver, fish, sardines, fruits and vegetables.
It also facilitates strong bones and joints.
2. EXERCISE
Any activity that requires physical effort to improve health. Exercise has profound benefits to our health; it facilitates both physical and mental health. Some of the functions of exercise in our bodies for healthy living include
Weight management: It controls weight by burning calories to prevent overweight and more gaining of weight hence healthy living.
Reduced chances of chronic diseases: regular body exercise improves cardiovascular health and reduce blood sugar level, which provides defence against diseases like heart disease, diabetes and stroke.
Stress reduction: Regular exercise improves body stability to cope up with stress, clears the mind and relax muscles.
Better joint health: Exercise keeps joint strong and flexible.
Improved memory: Physical activities can improve memory, making it easy to remember especially for adults.
Examples of exercise include, walking, running, swimming, jumping, jogging, nodding etc.
SLEEP
Sleep is a complex biological process that helps people relax and stay healthy
Adults needs between seven and nine hours of quality sleep for better health.
Missing out on sleep increases your chances of getting diseases. Quality sleep allows you to be alert and active.
Healthwise, sleep has the following functions:
- It helps in maintaining a healthy weight
- Sleep improves your memory
- Repairs body tissues
- Keeps your heart healthy
- Decreases inflammation
- Reduces stress level
- Blood sugar regulation

A healthy living is a personal responsibility, from your living style is how you get your living. Its possible to start a healthy living anytime despite your body condition or current situation. Nutrition is very important to be observed, depending with your health condition you can be advised by a medical health worker on which diet to take to boost your health. As much as food is important in our body not all foods are good for our health. Exercise is part of health living, if you combine good nutrition and exercise your health is likely to be better, sleep should also be included as part of a healthy living workout, remember it should be a quality sleep everyday.
